A good Sunday roast is a ritual to the British. The crisp edge of the roast potatoes, the glaze on the vegetables and the lashings of gravy are all components of the ideal Sunday roast. Some may argue the best roast dinner is the one you make at home, but if you do wish to go to one of London’s many restaurants to partake in this tradition, it’s important the meal hits the mark.

From fusion roasts to elevated takes on this British classic, L360 has rounded up the most delicious Sunday roasts in London.

Best for a pudding-lovers

Meat takes centre stage at Blacklock, where whole joints are roasted over hot coals and English oak, enhancing the flavour. The beef, lamb and pork are all served with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, veggies and lashings of gravy. There’s a vegetarian option, too — a barbecued cauliflower chop roast with meat-free trimmings that’s sure to satisfy even the hungriest of diners.

Any pudding fiends will find it difficult to say no to the signature pudding here — a white chocolate cheesecake with seasonal berries that’s dished up tableside (and worry not, the waiting staff don’t stint on the portion sizes).

To end with a sweet treat, opt for a gulab jamun, mango lassi or shrikhand (a sweetened, strained yogurt).

Mount St. Restaurant, Mayfair

Best for experimental foodies

Not every Sunday roast in London is what you expect. Mount St Restaurant is located above The Audley Public House, a buzzing pub in Mayfair. The restaurant is an upmarket cosy hideaway — the perfect spot after a morning of shopping in the city — and the Sunday menu includes classics like roast beef or a lamb rack with mint jelly. Those who dine here should take a moment to admire the art on the walls. The restaurant and its private rooms are home to more than 200 pieces of art by the likes of Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse and Lucian Freud.
