Metallics are trending again

I’m absolutely thrilled to see the return of metallics for this season — they’re such an easy way to add some excitement to a look without having to go too far outside of your comfort zone.

Spotted in SS24 collections from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Nina Ricci and (of course) Ganni, metallics offer the perfect meeting point between contrasts — bold yet understated, elevated yet effortless.

Metallics manage to act as a neutral while also offering a sense of personality and curation. Pair this silver AMYLYNN maxi skirt with a basic black or white T-shirt and your comfiest heels and you’ve got yourself the perfect day-to-night outfit. Sleek, but unforced.

A pop of red

Red has been my favourite colour since I was little and is what I chose to paint my entire bedroom in at the age of 10. My parents were convinced I’d regret it, but I never did — and I never repainted it. Since then, red has come in and out of fashion, and each return to the catwalk is met with joy from me.

The best thing about a trending colour, rather than style or silhouette, is that you can pair it with other trends to tick plenty of fashion boxes in one look. Think capri pants with a red halter neck, a white and red stripey two-piece or ox blood pointed kitten heels with just about anything — tick, tick, tick.

Status scrunchie

After a lifetime spent searching for a hairband that can adequately scrape back my curly mane without snapping, Good Squish scrunchies are my new go-to.

They’re perfect for scooping up hair away from your face when you need to concentrate, or as a bold-but-elegant accessory to tie an outfit together effortlessly. With a wide range of colours, patterns and sizes available, my collection is quickly growing — the current favourite is the dazzling Blumberg Taba Red — and I expect they’ll be the finishing touch to many a spring OOTD.

Summer of bags

Bags have been on the top of my wish list for the summer season, specifically the raffia and basket styles that have been popping up everywhere and exude warmth and sunshine.

Loewe’s basket bag in raffia and calfskin is gorgeous, but this rattan option from Soil and Sun projects just as much elegance for a fraction of the price. Pair it with a cream outfit and you’ll be ready to step into spring.

Scandi fashion staples

I’m obsessed with Damson Madder right now. It’s UK based, but you’ll have seen it on several of the Scandi influencers who pop-up on your Instagram feed — I’m really loving the Scandi fashion trend and its eclectic yet easy-going vibe.

Its summer collection is colourful and fun (a refreshing change amid the clean girl revolution), and is centred around slow fashion and sustainable practices, so you can feel good while buying it.

I’ve recently bought the Chlo Red Stripe Trousers and I’m saving up for the Mala Mini Dress next.
