Tenniscore is set to be one of summer 2024’s biggest fashion trends thanks to Zendaya’s new film, Challengers. Here’s how to serve the look

There’s no denying that Zendaya is a style queen. From the unforgettable metal Mugler robot suit at the Dune: Part Two premiere in London to the white Louis Vuitton dress she wore during Paris Fashion Week, there really is no look she can’t pull off, so it comes as no surprise that she’s single-handedly brought tenniscore back into fashion.

Now that she’s promoting her upcoming film, Challengers, the actress is embracing her character’s fiery passion for tennis through every outfit and accessory (she’s even wearing heels with tennis balls on them).

A cool and effortless aesthetic, tenniscore isn’t a new trend, and icons like Brooke Shields and Zoe Kravitz have been playing with the look for a while.

Meanwhile, high-end brands including Ralph Lauren, Celine and Ganni have been leaning into the trend with their latest collections, boasting products that can be worn on and off court.#

So, in addition to ‘clean girl’ and ‘mob wife’, prepare to add tenniscore to your list of looks, as we don’t expect this trend to be going anywhere, especially with Wimbledon around the corner.

“If you’re looking for a classic interpretation, look no further than Princess Diana,” says stylist Roberta Lee.

Princess Diana sporting her cycling shorts has become an iconic image, and celebrities from Hailey Bieber to Bella Hadid have gone on to replicate this look, embracing ‘street style’ fashion through sports clothes.

A simple way to recreate this effortless look is to pair a cable-knit jumper with some shorts, white socks and trainers. This option from Joules exudes effortless sporty chic, while the V-neck cut resembles Zendaya’s latest looks. You could even drape it over your shoulders for a preppy, sporty touch.

And speaking of V-necks, this half sleeve knit top from Pour Moi screams tennis chic. Add some jeans and ballerina pumps and you’ve got a members’ club-worthy fit.

How to style tenniscore

“The key is to strike a balance between sporty and chic,” says Roberta. “Keeping it modern and not looking like you’re off to the court to play a match.”

To do this, style a white polo shirt, like this from Bogner, with some jeans and trainers for a casual-yet-put-together ensemble.

Alternatively, pair a tennis dress with an oversized blazer and you’ve got a cute day-to-night outfit. This Cloud II Sport Dress from Vitality worn with some chunky trainers is a great choice for those looking to adhere to the trend in a low-key way, as is pairing a tennis skirt with an oversized jumper.

How to accessorise tenniscore

“To make these looks more modern, the key is to accessorise with oversized sunglasses and contemporary bags,” says Roberta.

However, she recommends opting for pre-loved items or renting when it comes to styling with luxury brands, saying: “Borrow or rent to experiment first, unless you’re certain that you’ll wear something on repeat for years to come.”

Bag Butler, a handbag rental company, boasts a collection of incredible handbags available to rent, and this Chanel Pink Chevron Mini Flap will perfectly complement a white tennis dress.

“Finish your look with some simple gold jewellery, a watch or just add a pair of classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer or Aviator sunglasses,” she says. “It’s through these additions, that the style can seamlessly blend into your everyday wear.” These hoops from Seola are not only timeless, but are waterproof and sweatproof, so that you can actually wear them on the tennis court.
