LED face masks promise salon-level skin rejuvenation at home – but are they more faff than facial?

Once reserved for futuristic facials in high-end clinics, LED light therapy has officially gone mainstream — thanks in no small part to social media.

Popularised by celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, Molly-Mae Hague and Sofia Richie, at-home LED masks are everywhere. Promising everything from reduced wrinkles to fewer breakouts, they’ve become the self-care gadget du jour.

But do they actually work, or are they just another glowing gimmick?

To find out, the Living360 team tried five of the leading LED masks on the market, testing them for comfort, ease of use and (most importantly) results.

CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 1

Reviewed by Priya

My battle with my skin is as uphill as they come: it’s oily and breakout-prone, complete with large pores. So, when I tried the cult-favourite CurrentBody LED mask, I was sceptical — could a red light really change my skin?

According to the brand, the mask uses ‘clinically recognised’ wavelengths. And while it doesn’t exactly feel like a spa experience (the Velcro strap can tug at your hair and feel tight if over-fastened — ponytails are your friend), it’s surprisingly easy to use. The battery lasts ages and the flat design makes it perfect for travelling — yes, I’m that girl doing skincare on a flight.

I’ve been using it daily on clean skin, and while there was no overnight miracle, after a few months I noticed a visible glow-up. Friends started asking what new products I was using, my makeup went on smoother and my pores looked smaller. It’s my new favourite ten-minute ritual and frankly, I’m hooked.

Verdict: A solid investment for brighter skin, especially if you’re consistent.

Pure Tone Glow LED Mask

Reviewed by Katie

My skin’s usually well behaved, bar occasional dryness, so I wasn’t expecting miracles from the Pure Tone Glow LED mask, but I did hope for a bit more glow. The big draw was the three light settings: red (collagen and fine lines), blue (acne) and yellow (sensitive skin and redness).

I stuck with the yellow light a few times a week, since new products tend to trigger my skin. The timer setup was confusing — I ended up using my phone instead — and even with a loose strap, the mask pinched around my eyes, leaving less-than-cute goggle marks. It also made my face feel slightly hot and prickly, which wasn’t exactly zen.

Charging it was fine, but I’ll be honest — the faff outweighed the fun. After several weeks, I didn’t notice any real changes, maybe because my skin didn’t have much to fix.

Verdict: Looks cool, but the discomfort and lack of visible results made it hard to love.

Magnitone London Get Lit Tri Colour LED Face Mask

Reviewed by Karlina

As someone with acne scars, frown lines and the early signs of ageing, I was eager to try the Magnitone London Get Lit mask — a device that claims to tackle everything with its red (anti-ageing), yellow (glow) and blue (blemish-fighting) settings.

It’s easy to use, with a built-in 15-minute timer and lightweight design. I slotted it into my evening routine before my skincare and noticed that my products absorbed so much better afterwards. Battery life was impressive, too, though the light can feel a bit intense on the eyes.

Consistency is key here — if you’re the type to skip steps, this probably isn’t for you. You can’t use all three settings at once, so it takes time to see results. Still, I noticed far fewer breakouts from the blue light, and my skin looked calmer overall. The wrinkle-smoothing red light will need longer-term commitment, though.

Verdict: A great all-rounder for acne-prone skin, if you’re patient and consistent.

Sensse Professional LED Light Therapy Facial Mask

Reviewed by Evelyn

I turned to the Sensse Professional LED mask to tackle my ongoing acne, opting for the blue light setting. It’s powerful, with multiple intensity levels and modes that overlap in what they claim to treat (which made figuring out where to start a little confusing).

Once I got to grips with it, though, it definitely felt like it was doing something. The charge lasts ages, and the light itself feels strong and salon-grade. Comfort-wise, it’s not perfect — the mask presses quite firmly against the eyes and nose, so I often found myself holding it up with my finger mid-treatment to avoid the pressure.

Consistency, I’ll admit, was my biggest downfall. I’d start strong, using it every few days, then forget about it for a week — not exactly the routine of someone committed to glowing skin.

That said, after a few weeks of semi-regular use, I did notice a difference. My skin felt softer and looked a touch clearer overall. It wasn’t a dramatic overnight transformation, but enough to convince me that sticking with it might pay off — especially since it only takes 10 minutes of my day.

Verdict: A powerful mask with real potential — if you can commit to consistent use (and don’t mind holding it in place).

StylPro Wavelength LED Face Mask

Reviewed by Hayley

My main goal was anti-ageing and general skin maintenance, so I used the Stylpro Wavelength LED Face Mask on its anti-ageing setting.

The mask was easy to charge and simple to use, with reliable battery life that didn’t need constant attention. Comfort-wise, though, it wasn’t perfect. No matter how I adjusted the straps — tighter, looser, somewhere in between — it just didn’t sit comfortably on my forehead, eyes or nose. Not painful, but not exactly the spa-like experience you might imagine either.

As for results, I personally couldn’t see much of a difference, but other people clearly could. I’ve had multiple compliments about my skin looking “glowy” and “fresh”, and a few people even asked if I’d changed my makeup (I hadn’t). That alone makes me think it’s doing something right.

An added bonus is that those 10 minutes under the light are an enforced moment of calm where you literally can’t multitask — a win in itself.

Would I recommend it? I already have, and a couple of friends are planning to buy it.

Verdict: A solid pick for subtle radiance and relaxation, even if the fit could be better.
