From burritos to Hawaiian poke bowls, Birmingham is overflowing with healthy and delicious lunch spots.

Having a healthy lunch in Birmingham doesn’t have to mean eating the same supermarket salad (sans dressing) every day. In this city, lunch can be simultaneously quick, delicious, nutritious and help you stay on track with your health goals.

Whether you’re in need of a quick, nutritious bite on the go, or an energising dining experience, these are our picks of the best lunch spots in Birmingham — from Solihull to the city centre.

Kuula Poké

Poke bowls are an ideal lunchtime meal for a number of reasons. They’re fresh, filling, healthy and undeniably delicious. Kuula Poké in the Great Western Arcade has something for everyone, with veggie options, raw fish and cooked meat choices.

The store is open seven days a week and you can also order using Deliveroo and Uber eats for those days you can’t get away from the office.

Zambrero

Zambrero has locations all over England and Scotland, serving up a menu of Mexican-inspired meals from burritos and bowls to nachos and tacos. Toppings and sauces are custom, so dishes can easily be made healthier, and higher in protein or fibre — whatever you fancy.

There are two Zambrero locations in Birmingham’s city centre, and you can order delivery through Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Grounded Kitchen

Grounded Kitchen is an expert at serving up healthy and tasty food across the Midlands. Expect a selection of Asian foods such as dumplings, bao buns, rice bowls and ramen bowls — perfect for a midday spicy pick-me-up.

Bowls start from 410 calories with an assortment of rice, with optional protein and vegetables. Order for delivery via Deliveroo or visit the Moseley branch to eat in.

Planet Health

Oldbury’s answer to healthy, nutritious and satisfying meals is here. The Planet Health menu is a symphony of breakfast, smoothies, pasta, salads, burgers and a variety of healthy main meals.

The restaurant prides itself on using fresh ingredients every day, and while these might not sound like healthy options, it promises to convert your favourite dishes into a nutrition-packed lunch. For example, meat dishes are mostly made from grilled or lean meat, with the option to add on more protein or forgo sauces.

Open sandwiches, salads, coffee, overnight oats and smoothies — sounds like the perfect healthy and filling lunch. Brew Twenty Three prides itself on high-quality produce that feels good for your body.

Alongside the delicious menu, it also offers a one-, three- or five-day juice cleanse to help replenish the body with nutritious ingredients.

The two locations are in Cranmore Business Park and Blythe Valley Park, and while they aren’t in the city centre, it’s still worth the trip.

Pho

Pho has restaurants all over the UK, including outside Birmingham New Street, and it’s a guaranteed warming, healthy and hearty lunchtime spot. Pho (pronounced ‘fuh’) is a Vietnamese rice noodle soup packed with protein and leafy veggies, served with fresh herbs to add in according to your taste.

The Vietnamese restaurant also offers variations of other popular local dishes like curry, curry soups and different rice and noodle bowls.

Sushi Passion

Sushi can be a great filling option for lunch — the perfect melody of healthy fats, protein and carbohydrates. A bar seat at Sushi Passion in the Great Western Arcade is ideal for a quick, nutritious lunch with a Japanese twist.

Start with a miso soup and move on to one of the sets; the salmon selection comes with a variety of salmon-based sushi.

The restaurant was named one of one of Open Table’s top 100 restaurants with healthy bits in the UK in 2024, so it’s certainly worth a try whether for lunch or otherwise.
