Waking up feeling like a gremlin is a thing of the past. Welcome to the world of the ‘morning shed’ — a revolutionary TikTok trend promising to transform your morning routine into a luxurious self-care ritual.

This craze is all about setting yourself up for a flawless, feel-good morning by ‘shedding’ your nighttime beauty routine like a pro. Like a caterpillar emerging from its cocoon to find itself transformed into a beautiful butterfly.

You’re essentially prepping yourself for a soft-launch glow-up before your alarm even goes off.

Everything you need for the ultimate morning shed

The morning shed isn’t a one-size-fits-all trend — you can mix and match these hacks to suit your skin and hair needs.

This list is entirely shoppable, making achieving your optimum morning shed that bit easier.

Heatless curlers

Mimi Nguyen, founder of Cafely, shares her secret to flawless curls without the heat. “I watched my mum roll her hair in soft curlers for years in Vietnam — it’s a tried-and-tested trick!”

She adds: “Silk heatless curlers are gentle, prevent breakage and keep frizz at bay, essential after a busy day.”

Pro tip: Place the curler towards the back of your head to make it more comfortable for sleeping.

These curlers from Silke London (£42) are made from 100% pure silk, leaving your hair as soft as the material. Alternatively, grab the ones in the video below from TikTok shop from just £4.50 for one or £8 a pair.

Overnight sleeping masks

“If you’re not on the overnight mask hype train, you’re missing out,” says Mimi.

“Choose masks with hyaluronic acid or niacinamide,” adds Inês Abdalla, founder of Inês Cosmetics. “These ingredients lock in moisture to help you achieve a radiant, dewy complexion by morning.”

This £30 Vital Hydra Solution mask from Dr Jart not only works to make your face plump and moist, but the formula also works to protect and nourish your skin barrier.

And Farmacy Beauty’s 10% Niacinamide Night Mask (£42) refines the look of pores and balances oil, leaving the complexion with a smoother, more even tone and texture.

Mouth tape and chin straps

While quirky, Mimi acknowledges their benefits. “Mouth tape promotes nasal breathing — less puffiness in the morning!”

These  £6.99 Zedzzz mouth tapes from Amazon are lavender-scented, adding an extra layer of relaxation to your bedtime routine.

On chin straps, Mimi adds: “They sculpt your jawline, though I’d still bet on a solid skincare routine long-term.”

TikTokker Mikealla Wegner called her chin strap her “$5 face lift”.

Although Mikealla doesn’t name the brand of chin strap she uses, it looks like this £9.99 strap from Amazon.

Silk and satin pillowcases

Inês swears by silk and satin pillowcases: “They prevent hair frizz and reduce skin creases, leaving you with smoother skin and hair when you wake up,” she says.

The material offers enhanced slip to resist tugging or pulling on your hair.

Kitsch offers satin pillowcases for £16 in a range of colours.

To save on buying multiple pillowcases, you could also opt for a hair wrap or bonnet.

Silke London’s hair wrap (£50) comes in a large selection of colours and patterns, and Kitsch’s XL satin bonnet (£18) is sizeable enough to hold long and thick hair.

Overnight lip masks or stains

Inês recommends lip balms with shea butter or lip stains for hydrated, subtly tinted lips that look plump and healthy come morning.

Lanolips’ 12-Hour Overnight Mask (£13) promises to deeply nourish your lips as you sleep, minimising the look of dryness and promoting a healthy — and irresistibly kissable — appearance.

Eyelash conditioners

Were we the only ones who didn’t realise this was a thing?

For lush lashes, Inês advises using a lash serum overnight to nourish and strengthen, resulting in fuller, healthier-looking lashes over time.

This is great for anyone who thickly coats their eyes in mascara every day, resulting in brittle and weak lashes.

RapidSheild’s Eyelash Daily Conditioner (£28) comes with a mascara brush-shaped applicator, meaning it couldn’t be easier to apply.

For those with sensitive eyes, we recommend UKLash’s specially formulated Sensitive Eyelash Serum (£38). Get longer, healthier, fuller lashes — without irritation.

Under-eye patches

“Gel patches with caffeine or peptides work wonders on puffiness and dark circles, leaving you looking more refreshed in the morning,” says Inês.

Turns out, caffeine isn’t just for making you feel more awake — it can help you look like you’ve had your eight hours, too.

Florence by Mills’ Floating Under The Eyes Depuffing Gel Pads £20 are soaked in a caffeine extract-infused serum, and work to depuff, refresh and wake-up tired eyes.

The infusion with green tea extract helps to soothe while cactus extract hydrates the skin.
