Whether you’re booking your pre-holiday manicure or looking to refresh your signature nail look, summer 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons for nails in years.

There are certain beauty purchases that never feel frivolous in summer, and a fresh manicure is one of them.

The right set of nails can make an outfit feel more expensive, elevate a wedding guest look and somehow make any picture of you holding a spritz look better. And while every summer brings a new wave of manicure trends, this year’s offerings feel particularly fun.

Instead of one defining look, summer 2026 is all about choice. Whether you’re drawn to understated elegance or playful nail art, the season’s biggest trends strike the perfect balance between polish and personality, delivering manicures that feel effortless, uplifting and just a little escapist.

“Summer 2026 is set to be a season of contrast in the nail world,” says Annabelle Taurua, beauty expert at Fresha. “On the one hand, we’re seeing a continued appetite for understated, healthy-looking nails inspired by trends like Japanese manicures, while on the other, there’s growing demand for playful colour and statement shades that feel bold and summer-ready.”

Matching lips and nails

Leave it to Hailey Bieber to predict the next beauty obsession.

In a recent TikTok interview, the Rhode founder revealed that she’s moving away from overly complicated beauty looks in favour of something much simpler: matching your manicure to your lipstick.

“What I’m really into right now is zero makeup […] and the lip and the nail being matching,” she said. “That’s the next trend.”

The appeal is obvious. Coordinating nails and lips instantly makes a beauty look feel polished and intentional without requiring a full face of makeup. Soft rose pinks, peachy corals and muted berry shades are expected to be particularly popular throughout summer.

Coastal cool

If there’s one theme defining summer manicures this year, it’s escapism.

From Amalfi Coast-inspired nail art to beachy colour palettes, holiday nails are having a major moment. According to Laura Bell, owner of Laura Bell Salon, clients are increasingly gravitating towards shades that evoke sun-soaked destinations.

“Coastal shades are everywhere right now. Aquas, sandy nudes, corals. Clients are coming in asking for colours that look good on holiday and back at their desk on a Monday morning.”

The trend extends beyond colour, too. Mediterranean-inspired manicures featuring hand-painted lemons, cobalt blues and ceramic tile patterns are proving particularly popular, while playful details like starfish motifs and even illustrated sardines are bringing a sense of fun to summer nail art.

According to Carly Cochrane, beauty trend expert at Cosmetify, Mediterranean nails are becoming the ultimate holiday manicure.

“It’s colourful, escapist, and luxurious without feeling overly polished,” she says.

Whether you opt for subtle coastal colours or intricate nail art, the overall mood is carefree, chic and distinctly European.

Pearls and seashells

Chrome nails aren’t going anywhere, but this summer they’re getting a softer, more elevated update.

Rather than traditional glazed finishes alone, nail-lovers are embracing a whole family of iridescent looks inspired by the ocean. Think pearly finishes, seashell textures, shimmering chrome accents and mermaid-like holographic effects.

“Seashell nails are bringing soft glamour to summer manicures,” says Carly. “These designs typically feature pearlescent finishes, iridescent shimmer and textured details that mimic the inside of a shell, giving nails an almost oceanic glow.”

Laura Bell says clients are also looking for fresh ways to wear the glazed trend.

“Glazed finishes are still massive, but people are getting bored of them on their own. We’re pairing them with French tips and nail art.”

Meanwhile, chrome remains firmly on the summer manicure menu.

“Chrome is still having a moment too. Gold and bronze especially. It feels luxurious without being high maintenance, which is exactly what clients want in summer.”

The result is a manicure that catches the light beautifully while still feeling sophisticated and wearable.

Alongside pearl and seashell-inspired manicures, milky glass nails are also gaining traction. Defined by their translucent, light-reflecting finish, they deliver the same glossy appeal as glazed nails but with a softer, more natural feel.

According to Annabelle, the trend is a natural evolution of the minimalist manicures that have dominated salons in recent years.

“Like rose-water nails, it’s a natural next step in the evolution of soap nails, glazed nails and other minimalist manicure trends that have dominated nail salons over the past few years.”

Soft summer shades

While bold colours always have their place, the season’s standout shades are surprisingly soft.

Research compiled by Fresha found butter-yellow nails have emerged as one of summer’s most sought-after manicure colours, with searches surging by more than 1,000% over the past three months. Coral and mint green are also seeing significant increases in popularity, highlighting a broader shift towards softer, uplifting shades.

According to Carly, butter yellow’s appeal lies in its versatility.

“Soft pastel shades always return for summer, but butter yellow has become the standout colour of the season. It’s warmer and creamier than brighter yellow tones, which makes it feel fresh, flattering and surprisingly versatile.”

Elsewhere, matcha-inspired greens are offering a more understated alternative to neon shades. Featuring muted pistachio and earthy green tones, the look taps into the wider appetite for calm, minimalist beauty.

Together, these shades feel fresh, optimistic and perfectly suited to summer.

Modernised florals

Florals may be a perennial summer favourite, but this year’s versions feel noticeably more refined.

Rather than bold tropical prints, nail artists are embracing delicate hand-painted flowers, tiny daisy details and soft pastel petals scattered across neutral bases.

“Floral nails are a summer classic, but this year’s versions feel much more elevated and delicate,” says Carly.

Part of the trend’s enduring appeal is its versatility. Tiny floral accents can add a subtle seasonal touch to a minimalist manicure, while brighter blooms create a more playful, retro-inspired look.

Either way, the effect feels romantic without veering into cliche.

Neon accents

For those who prefer a bolder manicure, neon remains firmly on the summer agenda.

This season, however, it’s less about covering every nail in fluorescent colour and more about using bright shades strategically.

“While last year focused on full neon manicures, this summer we’re seeing people use neon shades more creatively through French tips, abstract nail art and colour-blocking designs,” says Carly.

The result is a more wearable take on the trend that still delivers maximum impact, whether through a pop of electric coral, vibrant lime green or fluorescent pink.

Natural-looking nails

At the opposite end of the spectrum, summer 2026 is also seeing a renewed appreciation for natural-looking nails.

Japanese manicures, which focus on healthy nail care and a high-shine finish rather than dramatic extensions, are attracting growing attention among those seeking a lower-maintenance approach to beauty.

One of the clearest examples of this shift is the rise of rose-water nails, a sheer-pink manicure with a glossy, hydrated finish that creates the illusion of naturally healthy nails. First spotted on Hailey Bieber last year, the look has quickly become a favourite among those embracing a more pared-back approach to beauty.

“Consumers are increasingly opting for beauty treatments that enhance natural features rather than mask them, and there’s no denying that nails have been — and continue to — follow in the same direction,” says Annabelle.

The trend aligns with what salon experts are seeing more broadly.

“Shape-wise, short, soft-square and almond are winning,” says Laura. “The era of extreme length is done. Clients want something that looks polished but actually works with their life.”

It’s a sentiment that sums up the season perfectly. Whether you’re opting for playful nail art or a simple glossy finish, summer’s biggest manicure trends are all about looking polished without trying too hard.
