From picking up a complimentary coffee to getting unlimited refills, there are plenty of ways to cut the cost of your caffeine fix. Here’s where to find the best coffee freebies and rewards across the UK.

For many of us, coffee is a daily ritual — but those flat whites, cappuccinos and ube matchas can quickly add up.

With takeaway coffee prices continuing to rise (spending upward of £5 feels pretty normal now to many of us), finding ways to enjoy your favourite brew for less has never been more appealing.

The good news is that many of the UK’s biggest coffee chains, bakeries and supermarkets offer a variety of ways to get your hands on free drinks.

Whether you’re looking for a complimentary coffee today or hoping to earn regular freebies throughout the year, these are the offers worth knowing about.

Free coffee with no purchase required

Greggs: free hot or iced drink

One of the easiest coffee freebies on the high street comes from Greggs. Download the Greggs app and sign up for an account to receive a completely free hot or iced drink — with no purchase required.

The reward appears automatically in the Wallet section of the app and can be redeemed in-store within 31 days.

There’s another perk, too: add your date of birth when signing up and you’ll receive a free sweet treat, such as a doughnut or cupcake, during your birthday month.

Waitrose: free tea or coffee every day

Waitrose’s loyalty scheme remains one of the most generous supermarket coffee offers around.

Sign up for a myWaitrose card and you can claim a free regular tea or coffee every day in selected stores. The offer includes drinks such as americanos, cappuccinos, lattes and tea.

The only catch is that you’ll need to bring your own reusable cup. Simply scan your loyalty card at the machine and your free drink is ready to go.

IKEA: free tea or filter coffee

A shopping trip to IKEA can come with a complimentary caffeine boost.

Members of IKEA Family, the retailer’s free loyalty programme, can enjoy a free cup of tea or filter coffee in participating in-store restaurants. Simply swipe your IKEA Family card when ordering.

Membership is free and can be set up online or in-store.

Octoplus Rewards: a free drink every week

Customers signed up to Octopus Energy’s Octoplus Rewards programme can claim a free drink every week from either Greggs or Caffè Nero.

If you’re already an Octopus customer, it’s one of the easiest ways to enjoy regular free coffees throughout the year.

Free coffee through referrals

Blank Street Coffee: free drink

If you’re a fan of Blank Street Coffee, its referral programme can help you earn free drinks.

When you invite a friend to download the Blank Street app and they complete their first order, both of you receive a voucher for a free barista-made drink.

Gail’s: free drink or fresh loaf

Join Gail’s via a referral and you’ll receive a free barista-made drink or a freshly baked loaf of bread.

Members also receive a complimentary sweet treat during their birthday month.

Once you’ve signed up, you can refer friends yourself and earn additional free loaves when they join.

Caffè Nero: free drink

Refer a friend through the Caffè Nero app and you’ll receive a free hot drink once they’ve made their first purchase.

It’s a handy bonus on top of the chain’s regular loyalty programme —  buy nine drinks and your 10th is free.

Better still, customers who bring a reusable cup receive an extra loyalty stamp with every purchase, helping them earn rewards faster.
