Suede

The last week of August saw searches for ‘suede’ skyrocket, with people googling everything from shoes to bags to jackets.

Vogue proclaimed that ‘suede’ was the trend of winter 2014 — and, as we know, fashion comes back around time and time again. Ten years later, fashionistas are once again donning themselves in the soft, fuzzy leather.

YesStyle’s £82.25 Ariadne faux suede coat is serving this autumn, and L360 are eating it up — no crumbs.

If you can’t be per-suede-d to go full cowboy with a jacket complete with tassels, you can subtly incorporate the fabric into your footwear with Adidas Gazelles or Birkenstock clogs.

Bordeaux red

Though it has many names — ancora, burgundy, dark cherry and oxblood, to name a few — this autumn’s go-to colour has been dubbed Bordeaux red.

TikTok creator Sara (@iamsaraouardi) says that she loves the colour “combined with either khaki or with grey” and that you can even just wear it as a “pop of colour”.

L360 love this crescent bag from Charles & Keith, at £65.

Also, these £69 leather Chelsea croc block heel boots from M&S would pair nicely with a tweed blazer.

Alternatively, the vampy colour is a great pick for your next manicure or lippy.

Checks

Check it out! Plaid patterns are going to be everywhere this season.

Fashion expert Sophie O’Neill says: “Check patterns are one of the biggest trends for autumn 2024 and we’re already beginning to see celebs like Taylor Swift stepping out in the autumnal style.”

This £35 twill blazer from PrettyLittleThing would make for a great fall ‘fit.

Capes

Forget being demure and modest, this season is all about capes, capes and more capes.

Fashion expert Peter Martinez explains: “Talk about a trend that adds a sense of drama and elegance to your look.

“Fuelled by the unwavering popularity of superhero movies and shows, cape jackets add glamour and intrigue to your outfit.

“A definite staple for your transformed autumn wardrobe this year.”

You don’t have to go full Batman to achieve this look — there are plenty of wearable high street brands selling trench coats and raincoats with the stylish drapey look.

Cos are selling this £110 cropped coat that L360 are digging.

The New Look website includes a good dupe of the Cos coat for just £30.

Knitwear

Knitwear? For autumn? Groundbreaking.

We hear you, but we’re not just talking about jumpers: fashionistas forecast other items of clothing will be added to the knit kit.

Sophie, senior stylist at PrettyLittleThing, says: “Knitwear is in our eyeline, especially when it comes to maxi dresses, skirts and loungewear.

“In terms of colours, autumn seems to be focusing on grey, white and taupe.

“According to TikTok data, #cardigan has had 2k posts and four million views in the past seven days alone and has had an increase of 21% searches on PrettyLittleThing’s UK site.”

Normcore

The summer was dominated with simple linen trousers and plain white tees — a trend that’s set to roll over into the next season.

Peter, co-founder and fashion stylist/designer at Leather Skin Shop, says: “Who knew opting for subtlety, comfort and practicality would ever be a raging trend? The normcore trend is the rejection of extravagant or eccentric fashion trends, focusing on the philosophy of ‘less is more’.

“For autumn 2024, it would simply mean opting for basic, comfortable clothing in muted colours or understated patterns and cuts.”

Outgoing outerwear

Normcore making you snore? Why not brighten up the gloomy weather with some eye-catching coats.

Peter says: “In contrast to the subtle normcore aesthetic, bold and textured outerwear will be having a major moment this autumn.

“Opt for coats, jackets and blazers in materials like corduroy, velvet, tweed and faux fur, and patterns like checks, plaids and animal prints to add a touch of your unique personality to everyday outfits.

“Look for details like structured shoulders, flashy contrasts, blingy hardware and adornments on the jackets to make an unmissable impact.”

This £140 velvet jacket from Monsoon is adorned with adorable flower embellishments, and would also work well for Christmas and New Years’ parties.

Barrel-leg silhouettes

Skinny jeans died in 2016, followed by mom jeans, which eventually turned into baggy jeans.

Our trousers are getting bigger, and the next stage in the evolution is barrel-leg jeans.

Usually, high-waisted, barrel-leg jeans are notable for their extreme tapered leg. They’re favoured by fashionistas from Bella Hadid to Blake Lively, often paired with either a baby Tee or an oversized T-shirt with a French tuck.

New Look’s £32.99 high waist barrel-leg jeans are just slimline enough to feel super wearable if you’re not ready to go full John Wayne.

Off-shoulder

Gen Z have a habit of repopularising Y2K trends, and the one to keep an eye out for as we transition to chillier weather is off-shoulder jumpers, tops and dresses.

Off-shoulder tops are perfect for showing a hint of skin while keeping things stylish. It’s also a great way to show off your statement necklaces.

The style is incredibly versatile, ranging from chunky knits to corset tops and puffy sleeves.

Debenhams are currently selling this chic Bardot blazer top for £60.

Sweater vests and gilets

Waistcoats were the hot girl trend of 2024 and the style is showing no signs of stopping soon.

Keep yourself cosier as the nights grow colder by upping your waistcoat game to include sweater vests and gilets.

They make great transitional pieces, and you can find cute styles adored with bows to ensure you’re serving Matilda Djerf, not Wallace and Gromit.

This £42 oatmeal sweater vest for Dorothy Perkins can easily be dressed up or down.

Pointed shoes

Let’s get to the point. Killer stilettos look great, but they’re hardly practical for pumpkin- picking or coffee runs: cue pointed kitten heels.

These shoes are the latest 1990s trend that influencers are stealing for 2024 and have infiltrated the wardrobes of the likes of Emily Ratajkowski and Gigi Hadid.

Consider buying them in dark red to ensure you’re totally en vogue this spooky season.

We’re adding these £27.99 kitten heels from New Look to our payday picks.

Leopard print

‘Clean girl’ is dead and ‘mob wife’ is so last season: long live femme fatale leopard print.

Google searches for ‘leopard print’ have been rising as the weather has gotten cooler, with shoppers looking up dresses, jeans, skirts and even Ugg boots in the pattern.

#LeopardPrint on TikTok has racked up over 158million posts at the time of writing, with creators explaining how to incorporate it into your daily wardrobe.

Fashion stylist @styledbybritt_ recommends finding a ‘washed’ print for a look that’s ‘more muted, not orangey’.

So, why not release your inner Scary Spice this autumn?

L360 love this £15.99 leopard print shoulder bag from New Look, as it’s a subtle way of including the loud print.
